Keeping with the spirit of cooking, I made waffles with a friend for Sunday brunch. She boldly carried her waffle maker on the S-bahn for us to create these beautiful and scrumptious waffles for ourselves and my host family. While we didn't have champagne to make mimosas, we used sparkling mineral water to create bubbly mock-mosas. To continue the carb intake, we had potato wedges–which are different than typical wedges at home–that paired beautifully with ketchup and our sweet counterpart.

As a final parting gift, I surprised my host mom with her (and my) favorite flowers. While I made a simplistic gesture, I could definitely feel gratitude radiating from her smile. Though I only spent a month with her and her son, I immediately felt like family. I have a newly adopted family who I can count on seeing again soon (especially because I owe them beers for helping me carry my luggage to my new place!). I've never experienced life with a sibling before, so living with a younger brother was an interesting (but also fun) endeavor. We definitely had our fair share of brother and sisterly encounters, but I feel we bonded as well (especially after I made him pizza and he crushed me at table tennis).

Monday brought move-in day along with fierce wind and showers. I moved most of my belongings that morning and received assistance from my host family in the evening. (Even though he protested, Wanja did in fact help–with the promise of beer of course). I'm thoroughly going to miss my little nook in Lichterfelde; however, I could not contain my excitement to acquire a cat in my new apartment. My room is in fact larger here, but the more important factor is the cat! He helped me move in my things yesterday by sitting in the wardrobe and on my windowsill.

This morning I sit in my new bed, preparing for a new day and new adventures. I am going to my first appointment in the steps of obtaining a residence permit here. You have to register your new address, which is quick and painless, but a step to complete prior to going to your residency appointment. This will be an adventure in itself because I will be going to the end of one of the U-bahn lines for this appointment. I had recently made a pact with myself to travel to every final stop of each U-bahn and S-bahn line. I have 10 months to do so, so might as well get started!
Thank you always for reading this blog, and I wish you a lovely day and rest of your week.
