As research is picking up, keeping up with things on social media and blogging has become a little difficult! (I find it ironic that I’m having a hard time keeping up with my social media because I’m researching about social media and phone usage in concerts...)
Anyway, LOTS has happened in the past week! I officially am a resident for this year, so all of my bureaucratic whatnots are completed. That was my full day on Tuesday of last week. To celebrate, I went to my favorite coffee shop in Zehlendorf (a long train ride but worth it) to share a cappuccino with a friend.

Wednesday was my first day in my German class. I was initially a little nervous considering I haven’t taken formal German training in easily 3 or 4 years, but my professor is really funny and enthusiastic, making class super bearable. (Thank goodness considering it’s 4 hours long!) I only have it once a week, so it involves a lot of self-studying, which is not a problem for me since I’m used to it by now with research.

Thursday brought on a library day at the Staatsbibliothek, the lights pictured here, where I have come to enjoy working. It’s extremely quiet, and I absolutely love being surrounded by books! I have a beautiful view of the Berlin Philharmonie across the road, and am constantly tempted by the close proximity of Brammibals Donuts. Unfortunately, (but also fortunately) that urge got the best of me, so I had a donut during my lunch break. (Oops!)

Friday I visited a friend in Babelsberg midday and in the evening I went to the market with a friend, so we could make curry! It was one of my favorite dishes to make in the US, so it was really nice to return to a dish I enjoy so much. It went by too quickly.

Saturday brought a day of hiking! With a small group of friends, we all met in Potsdam and went north to a lovely area called Sacrow. There, we hiked around the lake–even tried swimming in the lake which was a big, cold mistake–and spent the day enjoying nature and fall.

The last two days have been research filled. I made an impromptu visit to my research advisor, and I was able to show him quite a bit of information I had found since I saw him. I’m really excited how things are going! He also wants me to speak on next month’s colloquium (eeek!), so that definitely holds me accountable!
This evening I had my first ballet class which was a little stressful. I of course got carried away and lost track of time, making me late to class. On top of that, it was in German, so being already flustered, I was barely understanding anything that was going on.
Thankfully, I had some ballet knowledge from last semester at USC, so I was able to employ the general knowledge I took from that class to this class. Tomorrow I have my German class again and Fußball (soccer), both of which I’m looking forward to!
Here’s to my non-existent experience in soccer and hopes that I don’t bruise too much!
